Reading Well (Books on Prescription) for Young People
Reading Well promotes the benefits of reading for health and wellbeing. The programme has two strands: Books on Prescription and Mood-boosting Books.
A booklist of 35 titles has been made available in public libraries across England. The titles provide 13 to 18 year-olds with support and advice on common mental health conditions, such as depression, anxiety and stress. The books, which include self-help, psycho-education, memoirs, graphic novels and fiction, have all been chosen by young people and health professionals.
We have Reading Well collections in a number of our libraries and hubs, all can be reserved.
How does BOP work?
Your support worker, health visitor or GP can help you choose a book that they think will help. They can also let you know where you can pick a book up from.
Do I need to join the library?
If you decide to pick the book up from your local library, we will ask you to become a member. Joining the library is free and easy to do, and BOP is confidential.
Can BOP help me and my family?
YES. Evidence shows that self help books can make a difference. Many of the books available will give you advice and information, and start to help to put you and your family back on the right track.
