Barnardos' Young Carers

Barnardos' provides support to children and young people with caring responsibilities and their families, to reduce the child/young person's inappropriate caring role. Where the caring role continues we provide support to reduce the negative impact.

We provide:

  • access to sustainable recreational activities and schools provision including homework clubs
  • information, signposting to existing services, guidance
  • access to targeted group sessions and drop-ins across the borough
  • support in accessing youth services, information, advice and guidance
  • group sessions delivered on Keeping safe and Protecting Self (Barnardos' education package)
  • time limited individual sessions addressing children's identified goals, based on assessment of needs and linked to measurable outcomes
  • information about parental illness themed group work around specific topics - parental mental health, feelings, confidence building, coping strategies
  • peer group support
  • multi-agency work through CAF or statutory processes

Referrals are accepted for young people with a caring role who live within the Middlesbrough boundary. For young people aged from 5 – 18 years.
