* Brandons Story

Brandon at work

Brandon joined Project Choice on a Supported Internship Programme to gain some works experience and develop his transferrable work skills.

An opportunity arose for Brandon to study for a SIA Door Security qualification which entailed a 7-day course, self-study booklet, Emergency First Aid exam and 4 exams in Security to gain a pass. Brandon completed his booklet before he started his training. He was a little apprehensive to attend the course due to being in an unfamiliar environment and with people he did not know. Brandon is a polite friendly young man but due to his autism struggles at times socially. He was offered support to attend the course, but he wanted to prove to himself that he could do it alone as he was so determined.

Brandon successfully passed his qualification and applied for his licence. He was able to gain some valuable works experience through Project Choice and started a placement with G A Security who were keen to support and work with Brandon. We received such good feedback from the employer, and they soon realised that Brandon was ready for employment. In December 2021, Brandon was offered a permanent contract as a Security Guard and now works nightshifts, 36 hours a week. We are so proud of Brandon’s achievement,
