Prince's Trust - xl programme

Prince's Trust xl clubs provide a personal development programme for young people aged 13 - 19. These informal clubs support young people in developing the skills and confidence needed to progress into a positive future.

The programme promotes a flexible approach, using relevant, experiential learning to support young people to achieve a range of personal and employability skills and gain qualifications. Young people work together as a group on practical learning projects, which are designed to boost their confidence, improve self esteem, attainment, behaviour and attendance. These skills and personal qualities can support the young people to achieve more, both at school, and in the future.

Since 1998, we have been working in partnership with schools and centres across the UK, building young people's personal and social skills, developing their confidence to move into a positive future.

Every year we work with our partners to support the learning and engagement of over 10,000 young people, ensuring a structured but flexible programme for young people with differing needs, as well as offering a recognised qualification and low running costs.

The xl programme creates a positive and informal learning experience for young people, who generally work together for 3 to 5 hours a week during curriculum time on practical learning activities, such as making and selling a product for an enterprise project or fundraising for a community project. The flexible programme structure, based around a framework of activity areas offering guidance and ideas to teachers, allows schools to make their own decisions on how to best meet the needs of young people, while also giving young people the chance to direct their own learning.

The xl programme offers high quality teaching resources including session plans and activity ideas, together with opportunities for schools and centres to learn from each other and share knowledge.  We host a series of events across the UK for networking, CPD and developing good practice.
