Our Additional Learning Support (ALS) team offer a wide range of support services at all levels of the curriculum and programmes range from Entry level 1 to Level 3 and A Levels, enabling you to access the education and social environments of the college. We provide supported internships which help provide an insight into the world of work, our supported internship programmes can lead on to voluntary or paid employment or even starting your own business!
When asked what students on the Supported Internship could expect, one of our students from this year, Aaron Tumilty, said students would:
“learn the skills and improve upon the skills they already have and overall they’ll be prepared for future employment”
All full time courses include employment skills, English and maths, work experience and employability. Part time programmes also run at entry level
Our dedicated ALS team work across the college supporting students with their specific needs. Additional Learning Support Assistants provide 1.1 / 2:1 or group support where necessary for the development of learning, communication and social skills.
We have ALS specialists in:

- Sensory Support Hearing/Visual
Sensory Support: This includes Communication Support Workers, note takers and additional English support which is provided where appropriate for students with a hearing loss.
We have access to assistive technology including JAWS, Lunar plus, CCTV, Braille keyboard and magnifiers plus additional 1.1 tutorials for students with a Visual Impairment.
Dyslexia Support: This is provided by specialist Dyslexia tutors across college in 1.1 or small group settings. Our Learning Support Assistants can also offer support to students within the classroom. Assessments for exam concessions are offered and these may include extra time, rest breaks, a reader or a scribe. Assistive technology is available and support can be offered on developing this as a student’s normal way of working so it can be used confidently in exam situations. A regular academic drop in is also available for students who need extra support to complete particular pieces of work or require individual study skills tuition.
Personal and Mobility/ Physical access and Support: Supervision for lunchtimes and break times, LEA transport supervision and personal care is provided for those who need it and access to a private washroom with controlled access. All main access points have automatic doors and students who need support with mobility have learning support assistants to help

A confidential Counselling service is available within college by appointment and our College Counsellor regularly provides input to the tutorial programme. Our Student Welfare Officers are also on hand to support with behaviour and poor attendance.
Transition planning into college from school is provided by the initial advice and guidance team and includes taster sessions. Transitions for any potential student include early meetings with students, parents and Career advisers, multi-agency meetings with professionals to help plan options and progression routes into learning within college.
