Home and Hospital Teaching Policy Statement 2019

This provision is currently delivered by River Tees Multi-Academy Trust (RTMAT) on behlaf of Middlesbrough Council. The SEND and Vulnerable Learners Service is responsible for maintaining oversight of the Home and Hospital teaching service delivery.

The Home and Hospital teaching service in Middlesbrough is provided in a variety of ways:

  •  In patients to James Cook University Hospital
  • Teaching within the community
  • Inpatients to West Lane Hospital

Pupils needing to access home and hospital education must have a medical need. A medical need can be defined as pupils who are physically ill, injured or recovering from medical interventions, pupils with mental health problems, school aged mothers/mothers to be who are unable to access education in their Home Schools.

Young people receiving education from the Home and Hospital teaching service will be dual registered with the provider and the child/young person’s home school.
