Paediatric First Aid Training for Early Years Settings
Train Aid provide First Aid Training across Middlesborugh and surrounding towns for Early Years Settings. The aim is to certify staff to deliver first aid in both emergency and non emergency situations, depending on the needs of the setting. All staff members receive a textbook and certificate which is valid for three years.
The 6 hour course is suitable for nannies, babysitters and parents who mainly need to learn how to help a child / infant in the event of an emergency. The 12 hour course is more comprehensive and explores childhood illnesses in details. This is suitable for full time childcare workers, along se those who look after under 8's including childminders and after school clubs.
Emergency topics covered on both the qualifications include the following:
- Checking for signs of breathing
- Assessment of injuries and the recovery position
- Child and Infant CPR
- Dealing with choking
- Major bleeds and shock management
- Minor injuries including cuts and grazes
- Anaphylaxis awareness
Candidates requiring the 12 hour qualification do so by completing a home / work study module. This requires reading up on a series of theoretical topics and then filling in some questions in a distance learning work pack. There are also a number of puzzles to complete as well. The content of the pack is tested at the end of the practical day of training or online if more time is required. Topics on unit 2 include the following:
- Roles and Responsibilities of a first-aider
- Meningitis
- Asthma
- Allergies
- Fractures and Dislocations
- Bites and stings
- Burns
- Febrile seizures
